Crèche now also provided for pre-school children

South Africa: At the ‘Esperanto’ farm located at ‘Koue Bokkeveld’, a building already existed for school children and babies to be used. The children, aged between 2 and 6 years, previously used to stay home with grandparents or friends, but these were too busy looking after the 12-16-year-olds. The farm workers and owners thus turned to the PPO Foundation for financial support to extend the existing building for the ‘play group’.

The region, located in the cold highlands north of Cape Town, primarily produces fruit and cherries

Their winters are very cold, and snowfall is not uncommon. Floor heating was installed to enable the children to play on the floor. All families considered this to be a wonderful contribution towards maintaining their children’s health.

Everyone was present at the inauguration by PPO on 13 October 2009: children with minders and teachers, community representatives, local social workers and the owner’s family.
